Chicago Fire Beat Chiefs & Sundowns to the Signing of Puso Dithejane

Chicago Fire have pulled off a major transfer coup by securing the signature of Puso Dithejane, beating South African giants Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns to the highly rated 21‑year‑old winger.

Dithejane, who has been on the radar of both PSL powerhouses, has enjoyed an impressive rise since leaving Chiefs three seasons ago. His form at TS Galaxy — four goals and six assists in 15 matches before the AFCON 2025 break — made him one of the most sought‑after young attackers in the country.

The move comes shortly after Chicago Fire also signed Bafana Bafana star Mbekezeli Mbokazi, strengthening their South African connection.

Head coach Gregg Berhalter explained why the MLS side pushed hard for Dithejane, praising his pace, attitude, and one‑on‑one ability.

“We’ve been scouting him for a while. He’s one of the most highly regarded talents in South Africa,” Berhalter said. “A dynamic winger who can change games — exactly what we wanted to add.”

Dithejane leaves TS Galaxy after 63 appearances, seven goals, and 13 assists, joining Chicago Fire on a reported four‑year deal. Berhalter believes the youngster will add depth to an already competitive winger group featuring Jo Bamba, Phil Zinckernagel, Maren Haile‑Selassie, and Chris Mueller.
