Former Moroka Swallows and Richards Bay coach Brandon Truter has cast doubt on whether Hugo Broos is the right man to lead Bafana Bafana into the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
South Africa’s AFCON run ended in the round of 16 after a 2–1 defeat to Cameroon, and Truter believes the World Cup challenge may be too demanding for the 74‑year‑old Belgian.
He suggested the team might benefit from a fresh, more energetic presence on the bench, pointing to Pitso Mosimane and Rulani Mokwena as strong local alternatives. Truter also questioned the lack of vocal leadership from the technical area, despite acknowledging Broos’ strong relationship with the players.
He concluded that South Africa should consider giving a local coach the opportunity, noting that domestic coaches have dominated the PSL over the past decade.
